As part of the “Firmenchallenge Österreich“ 2024, Managing Director Dr. Andreas Heralic and our Secretary General Ursula Oberhollenzer, MSc exchanged views on the topic of the Green Claims Directive.

What do companies have to pay attention to in order to comply with the future EU directive on environmental communication? The proposals for this are on the table, and the final document is expected shortly (according to EFRAG, the deadline is set at the end of February 2025). Get initial information and make your environmental statements legally compliant, because penalties for violations can be severe. After all, it’s also about enabling consumers to make informed purchasing decisions for sustainable products.

24 Days, 24 Persons, 24 Stories – Secretary General Ursula Oberhollenzer as guest at the year-end podcast of ÖGV

Also in 2024, our Secretary General was invited to record a podcast on her core topic, sustainability, for Österreichischer Gewerbeverein. In an entertaining conversation with Secretary General Stephan Blahut, numerous aspects of current developments in the economy and society will be examined together. What is needed is awareness-raising, systemic thinking and cooperation in order to initiate innovations and build a sustainable future together. Finally, there was a wish for the Christ Child. Feel free to listen in, because maybe you can join in!

Sustainability out of passion

Gerald Ziegler in the podcast with Secretary General Ursula Oberhollenzer! Ursula Oberhollenzer has been committed to sustainability since the early 2010s. Sustainability is a vision and needs a strong network for cooperation and innovation. For this reason, she has been Secretary General of the CSR Dialogue Forum (accredited to the United Nations and in consultative status) for several years. In this podcast, we bring order to the current jungle of sustainability terms: The SDGs (17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals, since 2015) are the political roadmap to a sustainable future. With voluntariness, we have (unfortunately) not managed to achieve the necessary transformation towards sustainability. That’s why there was the EU’s Green Deal in 2019. This also includes the legal requirements for the implementation of the SDGs and for achieving the Paris climate targets. Personally important for Ursula Oberhollenzer is the assumption of responsibility, which ultimately every person and every organization or company must bear. What each and every one of us can contribute to a planet worth living on, she describes in a very practical way in our conversation.

We have forgotten how to take responsibility! A CSR and ESG pioneer on real transformation.

Together with Brunhilde Schram, Zackes Brustik has worked out in the podcast how companies can cope with the current abundance of sustainability requirements. The difference between CSR and ESG is clarified, as are strategies of sufficiency, efficiency and consistency in corporate strategy. Sustainability managers are needed who are highly trained and can act responsibly with the backing of top management and together with a CSR team from all key areas of the company.

No good climate without education and justice! You know them. But do you really know the 17 SDGs?

In the podcast with Zackes Brustik, our Secretary General Ursula Oberhollenzer had the opportunity to summarise one of her core topics: the SDGs or 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. Listen in and be inspired by what they mean for us people and companies and how we can work together to implement them. The two panellists will guide you through the topic in a relaxed and entertaining way and together shed light on this roadmap to a sustainable future!

Green Washing and the Green Claims Directive

Zackes Brustik had also asked our advisory board member Anja Schröder in front of the microphone to shed light on her core topic of communication together with her. This episode is about the EU’s Green Claims Directive, which has since been adopted, which is one of the measures for increased consumer protection and against unfair competition. Consumers should be empowered to make purchasing decisions for products that are actually more environmentally friendly, and companies with demonstrably better products should be able to take advantage of their activities. Concentrated expertise in communication and sustainability including best practice examples as well as absurdities from this area. Be sure to listen in!

In an interview with Bernhard Weber from ICEP, Thomas Greigeritsch talks from the inside of a corporate sustainability manager.

His career is closely linked to the packaging industry and his expertise makes you want to find out more. Unfortunately, an espresso is drunk far too quickly…

zweihochzwei & ÖGV & Ursula Oberhollenzer:

The transition to a circular economy is a challenge

Sustainability also plays a major role for companies. Programs such as the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainability Development Goals) and the EU’s Green Deal are intended to lead us into the future. In this interview, sustainability expert Ursula Oberhollenzer explains what this means and what impact it will have by 2050 – including on democracy in Europe.

Radio Orange Interview with Stefan Puskas and Ursula Oberhollenzer

CSR – Taxonomy Regulation

The Corporate Social Responsibility Directive, the Green Deal and the Taxonomy Regulation were or are being formulated and specified “in Brussels” in order to initiate and drive social change. Why? Among other things, because there is now a broad consensus that climate change is of anthropogenic origin – and that humanity should react. Or because without new regulations, there is a risk of running out of work? Or because politicians, civil servants and entrepreneurs can hide behind CSR? A rogue who thinks evil. CSR reporting has been mandatory for large companies since 2017. Contrary to the goal of reducing CO2 emissions, they are still on the rise in the vast majority of industrial sectors. CSR – no impact? In some companies, insect hotels have been installed in the employee car park and beehives at the company headquarters. There are also more and more women in management positions. That is a very positive development.

Doris Schulz & Brunhilde Schram:

Get off the couch

We talk about the values of a company, why we have our wasteful relationships, why the green deal exists and how we can find an ecologically and economically sustainable life.

Zackes Brustik & Prof. Dr. Rene Schmidpeter:

The big paradigm shift in sustainability strategy

Here comes the paradigm shift! This episode is for entrepreneurs, managers and anyone who wants to know the strategic significance of the sustainability transformation from a business administration perspective.
