For 30 years, the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland has been offering unique and practice-oriented degree programs, courses and research at two study centers in Eisenstadt and Pinkafeld. What began in 1993 as the first Austrian University of Applied Sciences in a family setting is now one of Burgenland’s real success stories with 13.800 alumni and 1.000 employees. The international network of the UAS Burgenland currently comprises 120 universities in 30 different countries. With students from 79 different countries, UAS Burgenland has an extraordinarily high degree of internationalization. The 9.800 students in the 2023/24 academic year were able to choose from a variety of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as continuing education courses in five areas: Business, Information Technology and Information Management, Energy-Environmental Management, Health and Social Affairs.

Their focus lies on providing advice and education on the circular economy.

“I have been working on the topic of the circular economy for almost ten years and would like to finally multiply my experience and knowledge,” says co-founder Anna Köhl. „In discussions with companies, we have repeatedly realised that consulting alone is not enough to initiate circular transformation or drive the development of new, circular business models. The necessary knowledge base often has to be created first,” adds co-founder Simon Tumler, explaining the reason for developing the online diploma programme “Circular Economy Pioneer”.

The GREEN BRAND quality seal is a registered and protected EU guarantee mark for ecological sustainability with an independent, transparent and neutral test procedure.

The procedure recognises companies / products / service providers / foodstuffs / associations) that demonstrably make a significant contribution to protecting the climate, the environment, nature, biodiversity and resources. The validation process was developed in Austria and is currently in its seventh round of awards.

The ÖGNI – Austrian Sustainable Building Council, is an NGO (non-governmental organisation) for the establishment of sustainability in the construction and real estate industry. The goal of ÖGNI is to demonstrate the added value of building certifications in order to create environmentally and resource-friendly buildings with high economic and social efficiency. ÖGNI-certified properties should be flexibly usable across generations and have a positive impact on the health, well-being and performance of users. The ÖGNI was founded in 2009 and is a co-operation partner of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council), whose certification system was adopted, adapted to Austria and has been continuously developed ever since. The ÖGNI is the only Austrian council to be an “established member” of the WorldGBC (World Green Building Councils) and endeavours to strengthen the European quality certificate at an international level.
